Buckley Cabinet Fan
|
|
Circa 1929 |
|
A few years ago,
I saw in an AFCA newsletter
images taken of one of these
fans which is owned by Tom
Frampton and was restored by Kim
Frank. I was immediately
intrigued and thought it was
nicely restored but after seeing
it I realized it is far
more impressive in person. And
not only is it beautiful, it is
rather complex and elaborately
designed mechanically as is
apparent when looking at the
five pages of patent drawings.
From what I understand, only
three are known to have surfaced
and mine as well as one of the
others both were found in Kansas
City, the location of the
inventor. I am sure the time of
the 1929 crash of Wall St. did
not help with sales.
Interestingly, the fan inside
mine is a Westinghouse DC 8” fan
and if you look at the drawings
and the case/bracket itself, it
appears it was made specifically
to fit the gear box on that
fan. |
